GIFFORDS statement on Florida State University Shooting

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after a shooting at Florida State University.

“Today’s shooting at Florida State University should never have happened, and my heart breaks for those who were killed, injured or changed forever by yet another school shooting,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “It is horrifying and unacceptable that students who survived the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School seven years ago just lived through another – this time, on their college campus. Time and time again, our youth are gunned down in classrooms and our communities are scarred forever. It must stop.”

“Florida Governor Ron DeSantis offered his prayers to the students and faculty at FSU, but prayers are not enough. It’s time for real action. It’s time to close loopholes and pass gun safety laws that we know work, not repeal the bipartisan measures Floridians implemented after Parkland,” said Samantha Barrios, the Florida State Director at GIFFORDS.
