GIFFORDS statement on Midtown Manhattan shooting

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement on the shooting last night in Midtown Manhattan. Four people were killed including an off-duty New York City police officer.

“I am heartbroken that in Midtown Manhattan, yet another workplace has been tragically terrorized by a dangerous person with a gun. Americans should not have to go to work and fear for their lives. My heart goes out to the survivors and victims’ families, as well as the NFL, Blackstone, the Rudin Management Company, and all who were impacted” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “This cannot continue to be our country’s reality, and our leaders must be stronger. We can’t sit back and hope a good guy with a gun will always stop the bad guy—especially when the bad guy is armed with an extremely powerful weapon. It’s critical that we stop dangerous people from having easy access to guns.”
