GIFFORDS PAC endorses JoAnna Mendoza for Congress in AZ-06

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed JoAnna Mendoza as she runs to unseat incumbent Juan Ciscomani and represent Arizona’s sixth congressional district. Mendoza, who served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps in Iraq and Afghanistan, is a proven champion who knows that responsible gun ownership and commonsense gun safety laws go hand in hand.

“JoAnna Mendoza is a real Arizonan through and through,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “As a former Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, she understands responsible gun ownership and knows what common sense gun safety is all about. I trust JoAnna to make good decisions for our country and to represent our community with grace and grit and I’m proud to endorse her in this race.”

“I’m honored to have the support of GIFFORDS PAC. Their endorsement means a tremendous amount in this race—especially in a district that includes much of the community once represented by Congresswoman Gabby Giffords,” said JoAnna Mendoza. “In Congress, I’ll work to break the cycle of violence, protect our kids, and ensure every neighborhood in Southern Arizona is a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Mendoza is a veteran, single mother and community advocate who has served Southern Arizona throughout her career. In Congress, she will support universal background checks, stronger safe storage requirements, and increased regulations on untraceable gun ghosts. She will also work to allocate funds to mental health and community violence intervention programs and support annual gun safety trainings at the Department of Defense to better educate service members on the warning signs of suicide and domestic violence.
