GIFFORDS remembers lives lost in the El Paso, TX mass shooting

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement honoring victims of the mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, which took place six years ago this Sunday. The shooter, driven by racist, anti-Latino hate, took 23 lives and injured 22 others.

“For too long, we have watched mass shootings tear through communities, leaving pain and tragedy behind. It’s simple: Latino communities should never have to fear hate-based attacks, and families should be able shop for groceries without fearing for their lives,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Armed extremism is too common in our country, and more must be done to stop hate-filled attacks. My heart goes out to the survivors and families in El Paso who are remembering those lost today. For their sake, I urge our leaders to stand up and act.”
