GIFFORDS statement on shooting in Atlanta, near CDC

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after a shooting near the Centers for Disease Control and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. A DeKalb County Police Officer was killed responding to the shooting.

“My heart goes out to the DeKalb County Police Officer who was killed, his family, and the survivors of today’s shooting in Atlanta. For a second time this week, a Georgia community must confront the long-lasting repercussions of gun violence,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Stopping gun violence should not be about politics, it should be commonsense to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. Too often, people who are radicalized commit acts of violence because of easy access to guns. Our elected leaders must step up, doing nothing is not an option.”
