Gabby Giffords statement on assassination of Charlie Kirk

WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. 

“The murder of Charlie Kirk breaks my heart. My deepest sympathies are with his wife, two young children, and friends,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Democratic societies will always have political disagreements, but we must never allow America to become a country that confronts those disagreements with violence. Attacks against political or ideological opponents are cowardly and un-American, and must be universally condemned.”

“This summer, America has seen multiple politically-motivated assassinations—first of a Democratic legislator, now of a Republican activist—because dangerous people turned to guns to express their disagreements. Both parties have been targeted, and both parties share a moral and patriotic duty to take meaningful action to stop gun crime from claiming more lives,” Giffords added.
