Gabby Giffords’ statement on shooting at Dallas ICE Facility
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement on a shooting at a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, TX. According to reports, multiple people being held at the facility have been shot and at least one detainee was killed. Two people were reportedly injured.
“My heart breaks for the victims of this morning’s shooting at a Dallas ICE facility. On top of enduring this administration’s cruel and inhumane immigration policy, these families have now seen loved ones killed or injured in a violent and awful way. While we await more information, it’s clear our country is in the middle of a gun crime crisis,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Violent extremism, hatred, and easy access to guns are a deadly combination. It’s inexcusable that in America, the government’s failure to address this crisis puts both detainees and its own law enforcement personnel at risk. I implore our country’s leaders to stop ignoring the problem and take action immediately.”
