GIFFORDS statement on Minnesota ICE shooting
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in her car yesterday. The Trump administration claims that the agent acted in self-defense is disputed by video evidence, law enforcement experts, and local government officials.
“Our hearts go out to Renee Nicole Good’s family, friends and the entire Minneapolis community. There is no justification for this shooting, no excuse for it — it simply should not have happened,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “As this tragedy makes clear, the Trump administration’s reckless and indiscriminate federal immigration operation isn’t about public safety at all. The people responsible for this shooting must be held accountable.”
