GIFFORDS PAC endorses Senator Amy Klobuchar for Minnesota governor
WASHINGTON —GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar as she runs for governor of Minnesota.
“Right now, Minnesota is facing a crucial moment in which safety, security and freedom from gun violence are foremost concerns. Minnesotans will need a leader who will prioritize public safety and refuse to look away from gun violence in all forms. That’s why we are proud to endorse Senator Klobuchar for this must-win seat,” said Congresswoman Giffords. “Senator Klobuchar has been a close ally and friend of mine in Washington, fighting nonstop for landmark commonsense gun safety laws. Senator Klouchar is unafraid to stand up to gun industry CEOs to save lives, and I’m confident that she is the right person to lead Minnesota.”
“We have seen far too many lives cut short and families torn apart by gun violence — including just this past year when we lost the lives of two little kids in a deadly school shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minnesota. GIFFORDS PAC has been a critical partner in the effort to strengthen gun safety—with their help, we were able to pass the first bipartisan federal law in the Senate to address gun violence in nearly 30 years,” said Senator Klobuchar. “I’m running for Governor because I believe we must stand up for what’s right and fix what’s wrong. I will continue to work to take on gun violence and keep our communities safe, and I will continue to work with Gabby and GIFFORDS PAC to get it done.”
Senator Amy Klobuchar has represented Minnesotans in the U.S. Senate since 2007, and has been a staunch advocate for lifesaving gun laws for nearly two decades. She was a critical leader on legislation to close the “boyfriend loophole” and prevent abusive dating partners convicted of domestic violence from purchasing guns. In office, Senator Klobuchar has also been a cosponsor of legislation to ban assault weapons and bump stocks. She later championed measures to address the increase in deadly machine gun conversion devices. In 2023, she led a rare, bipartisan amicus brief filed in United States v. Rahimi, which argued for the importance of laws preventing domestic abusers access to firearms.
