GIFFORDS PAC endorses Senator Ben Ray Luján for reelection

WASHINGTON —GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Senator Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico for reelection to the United States Senate.

“Senator Ben Ray Luján is a fighter, and the person we need working for New Mexico families at this moment,” said Congresswoman Giffords. “Our nation has made important strides on gun safety in recent years, but we need leaders who are willing to continue the fight. Senator Luján stands up to gun lobby CEOs and fights for commonsense gun safety laws. His voting record proves it, and I saw it firsthand when we served together in the U.S. House. GIFFORDS PAC is proud to endorse Senator Luján as he runs for reelection.”

“I’m grateful for the support of my friend and former colleague Gabby, whose strength and perseverance continue to inspire us all,” said Senator Luján. “Preventing gun violence, saving lives, and keeping our communities safe must be a top priority. Congress has to do more, and that’s why it’s critical that Democrats take back the House and Senate. I was proud to serve alongside Gabby in the House, and I’m proud to stand with her today in the fight to end gun violence. From our schools to places of worship, all New Mexicans deserve to live free from the fear of senseless gun violence.”

Since he was first elected to Congress in 2008, Senator Luján has remained a steadfast advocate for commonsense gun safety measures in Washington D.C. In both the House and Senate, he’s taken a strong leadership role in fighting for progress in the fight to save lives — from cosponsoring legislation to expand background checks, to supporting a prohibition on gun access for abusive dating partners and stalkers. He has supported a ban on bump stocks, and pushed to restart federal research into gun violence. The Senator has also served as the lead sponsor of important bills like the Disarm Hate Act, which would bar those convicted of hate crimes from obtaining firearms.
