Gabby Giffords remembers victims and survivors of the Covenant school shooting in Nashville

WASHINGTON —  GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement recognizing three years since the mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. Three children and three adults were killed in the attack.

“Today, I’m remembering the six innocent lives stolen during the attack on The Covenant School three years ago. Three faculty members and three nine-year-old children were killed, leaving scars on their families and in Nashville that will last forever,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Despite the thoughts and prayers offered in the wake of the attack, Tennessee’s gun safety laws fall short of the commonsense solutions we need to prevent these tragedies. My heart is with their families, and I stand with the Nashville community.GIFFORDS will continue to fight for stronger laws in Tennessee to protect children and families.”

In 2025, Tennessee scored an “F” on GIFFORDS’ Annual Gun Law Scorecard. The state lacks basic gun safety laws including universal background checks, gun owner licensing, waiting periods and more.
