GIFFORDS awards Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi Lifetime Achievement Award

WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after awarding Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi a Lifetime Achievement Award celebrating her decades of commitment to gun safety legislation and garnering substantial victories in the fight to end gun violence.  

“It was an honor to present Speaker Pelosi with the GIFFORDS Lifetime Achievement Award. She has spent her exceptional career as a leader and a trailblazer for so many of us, but for me, she is also a close friend who was there for me in my darkest moment,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “As Speaker of the House, she ensured the passage of the first federal gun safety legislation in 30 years. Her leadership also resulted in our nation establishing the first federal gun violence prevention task force, bolstering background check legislation, and holding irresponsible gun industry actors accountable. She has saved lives and made our nation safer. It was a pleasure to deliver this award to Speaker Pelosi, and celebrate her legendary career.”
