GIFFORDS urges Minnesota Republicans to protect communities, pass commonsense gun laws

WASHINGTON GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement urging Minnesota Republicans to vote yes on a slate of new commonsense gun violence prevention bills. On average, more than 500 people die by gun violence each year in Minnesota, and gun violence continues to be the leading cause of death for kids and teens. The proposed legislation will protect families and communities from pervasive gun violence.

“This is a critical package of reforms to save lives in Minnesota. When our leaders become mired in partisanship and optics, they lose sight of important issues that should never belong to one side of the aisle or another. The fight to protect families from gun violence and crime is one of those issues,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Commonsense gun policies protect everyone, and all Minnesota’s leaders have a responsibility to use their vote to save lives. I urge Minnesota Republicans to vote yes on the Senate DFL’s gun safety package.”
