GIFFORDS PAC endorses Jack Reed for US Senate

WASHINGTONGIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Senator Jack Reed as he runs for reelection in Rhode Island.

“Senator Reed has been a key ally in the fight for gun safety throughout his entire career. Today, he continues to stand against corporate gun industry greed, and I am proud to endorse him for reelection,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “During his time in office, Senator Reed has stood against the NRA and proven his commitment to keep guns out of the wrong hands. As we aim to retake the Senate this November and put an end to the senseless gun violence impacting Rhode Island communities, Senator Reed’s allyship will be more crucial than ever.”

“I’m honored to earn GIFFORDS PAC’s endorsement for my work to end gun violence. Together, we’re building the broad, popular support and momentum needed to enact more commonsense reforms to halt gun violence and make our children, schools, and communities safer for every Rhode Islander,” said Senator Jack Reed.

Throughout his career, Senator Reed has served his nation in the Army, as a state legislator, as a member of Congress and now as a United States senator. First elected to the Senate in 1996, Senator Reed was one of the first lawmakers to stand up to the gun lobby, even when it was not a popular position. In addition to his support for the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act — the most significant gun safety legislation in 30 years — Senator Reed has supported legislation to expand background checks. He also led the effort to extend the Undetectable Firearms Act, which would ensure that every gun contains enough metal to trigger a metal detector.

This past year, he stood with Rhode Islanders after the terrible shootings at Brown University and at a high school hockey game in Pawtucket. If reelected, Senator Reed will continue the fight to better protect children and families from gun violence in the years to come.
