GIFFORDS PAC endorses Kathy Hochul and Adrienne Adams in New York
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Kathy Hochul for reelection as governor of New York and former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams for lieutenant governor.
“Throughout their careers, both Governor Hochul and Speaker Adams have proven their commitment to building safer communities and fighting gun violence, making them the leaders that New York needs right now. It is a privilege to support New York’s first all-women ticket, and I am proud to endorse both of these champions in the fight to save lives,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “I know Governor Hochul and Speaker Adams will always stand up against gun lobby interests, prioritize community-based solutions and continue the fight for commonsense gun laws in New York. I look forward to continuing to partner with both as we work to keep children and families safe from New York City to Buffalo and beyond.”
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of GIFFORDS PAC. From the moment I stepped into office, I have made it my mission to keep every New Yorker safe – and we’ve made real progress, getting more than 10,000 illegal guns off our streets, cracking down on ghost guns, and working alongside Gabby Giffords to tackle gun violence. Congresswoman Giffords and I share the belief that commonsense gun safety laws save lives. Together, with the hard work of our partners across New York, we’ve made real progress in reducing violence and keeping families safe – with shootings dropping 60% since I took office in 2021 – but we know our work isn’t finished. With GIFFORDS PAC by our side, New York will continue to lead the nation in protecting families and building safer communities across the state,” said Governor Kathy Hochul.
“I’m grateful for the support of GIFFORDS PAC, and I’m incredibly proud to stand with leaders who are equally as committed to reducing gun violence on our streets and protecting our neighborhoods. Gun violence has taken far too many lives, and I’m proud to work alongside Governor Hochul to continue her successes lowering gun violence and keep New Yorkers safe. With GIFFORDS PAC’s support, we will make sure every New Yorker feels safe in our streets and subways – and save lives,” said Former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.
As the first woman to lead New York, Governor Hochul has notched key wins in the fight against gun violence over the last five years. Under her leadership, New York has banned unregulated ghost guns and a new inter-state task force has been created to fight illegal gun trafficking in the Northeast. After the tragic mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, the governor also expanded New York’s red flag laws, strengthened gun reporting protocols, closed regulatory loopholes and more. Since taking office, she has invested over $3 billion in public safety, leading to more than 10,000 illegal guns being taken off of New York streets and a 60% decrease in shooting injuries.
Former Speaker Adams, New York City Council’s first-ever African American speaker, has also consistently prioritized public safety and supporting crime victims. As a member of the city council, Speaker Adams led the formation of the council’s Task Force to Combat Hate, which worked to bring people of all backgrounds together to develop policies and initiatives focused on improving community safety. She also led the fight to fund New York State’s first four Trauma Recovery Centers, and she made record investments in community-based solutions to gun violence. Her victories include securing more than $5 million for victim services, and increasing support for crime victims in communities that experience high levels of violence but are underserved by traditional victim services.
