GIFFORDS PAC endorses Ned Lamont for governor of Connecticut
GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Governor Ned Lamont as he runs for reelection in Connecticut.
“Governor Lamont is a steadfast leader who has never hesitated to fight for commonsense gun safety laws. As governor, he has notched crucial wins by investing in community violence intervention, working across state lines to reduce crime, expanding background checks, and more,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Under Governor Lamont’s leadership, Connecticut has better protected children across the state by passing Ethan’s Law, which established safe firearm storage requirements. I am proud to endorse him for reelection as governor of Connecticut, and I have full confidence he will continue to be a strong partner in the fight to save lives from gun violence.”
“I’m proud to earn this endorsement from GIFFORDS PAC, an organization that has been on the front lines of the fight to end gun violence. Here in Connecticut, we’ve proven over and over commonsense gun safety laws save lives. I’m committed to building on our progress, standing up to the gun lobby, and making sure every family in our state feels safe in their communities. Together with GIFFORDS, we’re going to keep pushing forward,” said Governor Ned Lamont.
Governor Ned Lamont has spent his tenure passing critical legislation to transform Connecticut into one of the safest states in the nation. In 2021, the governor passed lifesaving legislation to strengthen Connecticut’s landmark extreme risk law, and later he signed Ethan’s Law, a landmark piece of legislation that mandates the safe storage of firearms to protect children. He has also worked across state lines with the governors of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to share gun data between the states in an effort to reduce crime across the region. Additionally, Governor Lamont has enacted measures to expand background checks, ban ghost guns and fund community violence intervention programs. Presently, the governor is pushing to ban “Glock switches” which can easily convert a regular firearm into a machine gun.
