WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS Law Center, the legal arm of the national gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, and Campaign Legal Center applauded the DC Circuit’s decision to dismiss the National Rifle Association’s latest attempt to disrupt GIFFORDS v. National Rifle Association, et al. GIFFORDS, represented by Campaign Legal Center Action, is suing the National Rifle Association and its affiliated entities for making as much as $35 million in unlawful, excessive, and unreported in-kind campaign contributions — part of a long-running scheme, which included donations to six Senate candidates and Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. 

“The NRA illegally funneled as much as $35 million into multiple federal election campaigns, disguising illegal contributions as independent expenditures. It has continuously tried to delay this case in an obvious attempt to avoid accountability. We are grateful that the D.C. Circuit has rejected the NRA’s latest stall tactic. We will continue to shine light on the NRA’s corruption,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. 

“Illegal coordination — like the NRA’s collusion with their favored candidates — deprives voters of their right to know who is spending money to influence their vote,” said Dan Lenz, senior legal counsel for strategic litigation at Campaign Legal Center. “This ruling makes clear that the NRA’s latest attempts to disrupt this case will not stand.”
