GIFFORDS PAC celebrates gun safety majority in U.S. House
WASHINGTON —GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, celebrated regaining a gun safety majority in the U.S. House. This cycle, GIFFORDS PAC endorsed over 150 gun safety champions across the country running for Congress, all of whom pledged to take action on rising rates of gun violence if elected. GIFFORDS PAC invested more than $5.7 million through its independent expenditure program to support candidates in seven competitive U.S. House races.
“With this election, Americans in every corner of the country made it clear they want leaders who will stand up to gun lobby corruption and fight for reform to stop shootings and save lives,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
“On average, 128 Americans are killed by guns every single day, and guns are the number one killer of children and teens. Voters have made clear that they are sick of it and support popular, commonsense policies like background checks on all gun sales, red flag laws and community violence intervention programs that reduce violence. We were proud to support gun safety candidates in key races, from Rebecca Bennett in New Jersey’s 7th to Manny Rutinel in Colorado’s 8th. Voters have gone to the polls and made it clear what they want: change. I look forward to working with our new gun safety majority in the U.S. House to ensure it once again puts the safety of the American people at the center of its governing agenda,” Giffords added.
