Arizona’s weak gun safety laws put its residents at risk. State lawmakers have an obligation to act—immediately—to protect their communities from gun violence.

Arizona repealed its concealed weapons permitting requirement in 2010, allowing anyone 21 or over to carry a hidden, loaded firearm in public without a license. In 2022, Arizona had the twelfth highest gun death rate among the states. In an average year, 1,290 people die from gun violence in the state. That means that someone dies from gun violence every 7 hours. Sixty-seven percent of these deaths are gun suicides, and 29% are gun homicides. In Arizona, the rate of gun deaths increased 43% from 2013 to 2022, compared to a 36% increase nationwide.
