What is a matching gift?

Corporate matching gifts are a type of philanthropy in which companies financially match donations that their employees make to nonprofit organizations.

How do I request a matching gift?

Here’s the basic process: Once you complete your online donation you will be redirected to an eligibility search page or tool. Follow the link to the submission form, complete it, and send it to your employer. Once this form is processed and approved, the company will submit a matching donation to Giffords Law Center.

I made a donation months ago. Can I still apply for a matching gift?

Yes! If you forget to submit your matching gift request after selecting your company at the time of donation, you will receive a series of auto-generated emails prompting you to submit your match. If you do not, please contact us at lawcenter@giffords.org.

I didn’t find my company in the search box. Now what?

This means it’s likely your employer does not participate in a matching gift program. This database is extensive and provides corporate giving information on many of the largest companies in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. However, it isn’t 100% exhaustive, as new companies are regularly instituting matching gift programs. If you’re aware of a company that offers employee giving programs and isn’t in the database, please email data@doublethedonation.com.
