Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Responds to Terror Attack in New Zealand

March 15, 2019 — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, co-founder of the gun violence prevention organization Giffords, reacted to the terror attack at mosques in New Zealand that killed forty-nine people.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“Today my heart is in New Zealand. I join my fellow Americans in sending strength to the families and communities forced to live through this horrific act of terror. My love and compassion is with every person who today feels less safe just because of who they are and what they believe.

“We are shaken to our core by events like this. In a free society, political violence, hate speech, and crimes against people simply expressing their faith must never be tolerated. We must stand together to combat these forces of evil with a commitment to respect, tolerance, and an understanding that it’s our differences that bring out the best in us.”
