GUN SAFETY VICTORY: Gun Safety Champion Patty Murray Reelected to the US Senate

Washington DC — Today, Giffords PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Senator Patty Murray on her reelection to the US Senate. Giffords PAC endorsed Senator Murray in December 2021 and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords joined Senator Murray at a campaign event and rallied support for her candidacy in Seattle earlier this year.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“We need strong leaders in Washington who will stand up for the majority of Americans who believe in gun safety laws. Senator Murray has long been a strong voice for commonsense change in Congress. In addition to supporting the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, she has fought diligently for the resources needed to understand and end our country’s gun violence epidemic while in office, helping to secure millions in federal funding for critical research into gun violence. With her reelection, the people of Washington State can be sure that Senator Murray will continue to put their best interests ahead of the gun lobby’s bottom line and help lead conversations in pursuit of thoughtful solutions designed to save lives.”

In her three decades of service in the Senate, Senator Murray has consistently advocated for commonsense gun safety measures like universal background checks and protecting women from domestic violence by limiting the ability of abusers to access firearms. As both assistant Democratic leader and as chairwoman of the powerful Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Senator Murray was instrumental in securing the first dedicated funding to research the causes and impacts of gun violence in over 20 years. Senator Murray will continue her relentless advocacy to keep American communities safe from the epidemic of gun violence.
