Gun Safety Wins Over Gun Lobby in Virginia: 56 GIFFORDS PAC Endorsed Candidates Elected to Office

Virginians chose gun safety champions over extremists to protect communities from gun violence

Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, celebrated key wins in Virginia which resulted in gun safety leaders successfully flipping the Virginia House of Delegates and maintaining their majority in the Virginia Senate.

Gun violence was top of mind for voters as they headed to the polls. 56 GIFFORDS PAC–endorsed candidates were elected to office in a clear rebuttal of Governor Glenn Youngkin’s radical agenda.

Vanessa N. Gonzalez, Vice President of Government and Political Affairs:

“While the NRA claimed that they were in full swing in Virginia and the gun lobby was confident they would win, Virginia voters chose common sense over extremism. Voters don’t believe the blatant lies from the gun lobby and their candidates and last night, they elected gun safety leaders to both the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate. These results are proof that political tides have changed as candidates are now proudly running on gun safety and winning. They want to keep their kids and communities safe. We won’t stop fighting to save lives across the Commonwealth.”

Earlier this fall, former Congresswoman Giffords joined several endorsed candidates at three voter outreach events in Virginia. Since its founding, GIFFORDS PAC has helped elect candidates who fulfill their promises and pass commonsense gun safety laws, including extreme risk protection orders and universal background checks.
