Gabby Giffords honors victims and survivors seven years after Parkland shooting
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, recognized the 17 people killed and 17 more who were injured during a school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School seven years ago today.
“Today, I’m thinking of the students and teachers of Marjory Stoneman Douglas whose lives were taken from them,” said former Congresswoman Giffords. “This senseless shooting left deep and long-lasting impacts on families, survivors, the Parkland community, and Florida. The groundswell of youth action in the wake of it changed the country. The violence our country witnessed that day should be untenable for every lawmaker and leader.
“My heart goes out to the families of those who were lost, and to the families of survivors that lived through that traumatic day. I continue to stand with them and the scores of advocates pushing for a safer nation.” Giffords concluded.
