GIFFORDS: Trump just effectively legalized machine guns
Trump’s DOJ is reportedly approving the sale of forced reset triggers, allowing guns to fire as machine guns which have been banned since 1986
The DOJ reportedly settled a lawsuit that challenged the ATF ban on the devices
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, condemned the Trump Department of Justice’s (DOJ) move to settle a lawsuit that challenged the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) ban on forced reset triggers, as reported by NBC. Forced reset triggers convert semi-automatic firearms into machine guns, which have been banned since 1986. The settlement allows for the sale of these devices.
“The Trump administration has just effectively legalized machine guns. Lives will be lost because of his actions,” said Vanessa Gonzalez, GIFFORDS Vice President of Government and Political Affairs. “This is an incredibly dangerous move that will enable shooters to inflict horrific damage. The only people who benefit from these being on the market are the people who will make money from selling them, everyone else will suffer the consequences.”
