GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Gina Ortiz Jones for San Antonio Mayor

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of Gina Ortiz Jones for mayor of San Antonio. Jones, a veteran who served in both Iraq and at the Pentagon as Under Secretary of the Air Force, has firsthand experience with firearms and knows that commonsense gun safety laws save lives.

“Gina Oritz Jones has served our country faithfully for years, and I know she will serve the people of San Antonio with just as much passion and commitment,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Gun violence and crime is horrific, but can be prevented – and we need strong mayors who will fight to keep Texans safe. I know Gina Ortiz Jones will do that. That’s why GIFFORDS PAC is thrilled to endorse her.”

“As a veteran and national security leader, I understand a leader’s number one job is to keep people safe, and that requires smart gun laws,” Jones said. “I’m proud to have earned the GIFFORDS endorsement, and as San Antonio Mayor, I will be guided by the basic principle that commonsense gun safety is key to our community’s public safety.” 

As mayor, Jones will fight to increase funding for community violence intervention programs that are proven to disrupt cycles of violence, and be a strong advocate for commonsense laws like universal background checks, red flag laws, and improved safe storage requirements. Jones will also fight for stronger protections for victims of domestic violence.
