GIFFORDS PAC endorses Juliana Stratton for U.S. Senate
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton for the U.S. Senate.
“Juliana Stratton’s proven record fighting for gun safety shows that she is exactly the person Illinoisans need in the Senate right now. In every role, from the state house to statewide office, Juliana has worked for communities to achieve tangible results,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “From banning dangerous ghost guns and assault weapons, to holding reckless gun manufacturers accountable, she has shown that she will not back down. I know that in Washington she will continue to hold the line against dangerous legislation pushed by the gun lobby and will always stand up for victims and families. I am proud to endorse Juliana Stratton for the Senate.”
“I’m honored to be endorsed by GIFFORDS PAC, who share my understanding that words alone are not enough — we must continue to act with urgency and purpose to protect our communities. Throughout my career, I’ve been committed to confronting gun violence from every angle, not only responding to harm but preventing it before it begins, and I look forward to building on that work alongside GIFFORDS in the US Senate. No family should have to carry the fear and loss that comes with gun violence, and together we are standing up to say enough is enough. We can advance real solutions at every level of government that ensure all Americans can live in safe communities no matter their zip code,” said Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton.
Lieutenant Governor Stratton, a lifelong resident of Chicago’s South Side, has spent her career fighting gun violence. In her prior roles as state representative and as the director of the Center for Public Safety and Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Stratton has worked tirelessly to build a safer future for the next generation. From increasing violence prevention and intervention funding across the state to banning dangerous weapons including bump stocks and high-capacity magazines, her efforts have saved lives. Stratton also championed measures to hold gun manufacturers accountable for unsafe marketing practices, and led the Illinois’ Justice, Equity, and Opportunity Initiative, where she oversaw numerous criminal justice–related agencies to advance equity-focused policies to reduce crime.
