GIFFORDS PAC endorses James Talarico for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Texas Representative James Talarico the U.S. Senate.

“Texans need a fighter who isn’t afraid to take on the gun lobby to protect our communities and create a safer Texas. I have no doubt that James Talarico is that fighter, and I am proud to endorse him for the U.S. Senate,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “In the face of everyday gun violence and devastating mass shootings, Representative Talarico has been committed to addressing the root causes of crime while always respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. If voters turn this critical Senate seat blue, I have no doubt that Representative Talarico will continue to stand up for victims, families and the lives of all Texans. I look forward to working with him to build a safer future for Texas .”

While in the Texas state legislature, Representative Talarico has consistently supported lifesaving gun violence prevention measures like expanded background checks, stronger safe storage requirements and a higher minimum age for semiautomatic weapons purchases. He has pushed for increased penalties for mass shooters, and has opposed dangerous permitless carry legislation, which would allow anyone, regardless of their background or training, to carry concealed firearms in Texas. Representative Talarico also fought to improve access to safety training in schools including active shooter drills. He is also committed to working to address illegal gun trafficking in the U.S. Senate.
