GIFFORDS PAC endorses Amber Goodwin for Austin City Council

WASHINGTON —  GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Amber Goodwin as she runs for Austin City Council.

“We are proud to endorse Amber Goodwin for Austin City Council. A longtime ally and friend of GIFFORDS, Amber is a crucial voice in the fight to support community violence intervention at the state and federal level,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “As the founder of Community Justice Action Fund and as a voice for change in Austin, Amber has played a direct role in saving lives. If elected to the Austin City Council, she will be even better positioned to make Austin’s neighborhoods safer. We’re excited to support her this November.”

Amber Goodwin currently serves as an assistant district attorney in Travis County, working closely with Austin’s Office of Violence Prevention, which she helped establish. She previously served as GIFFORDS’s national advocacy director, where she helped support community coalitions. Goodwin both founded and led the Community Justice Action Fund, the nation’s first Black- and Brown-led gun violence prevention organization. She also chaired the Austin Gun Violence Task Force and helped secure federal funding for community-based violence intervention, including the Safer Travis County Resolution. Goodwin later co-founded the Community Violence Legal Network, and in her time as a leader has helped secure nearly $14 billion in total funds for community safety and gun violence prevention.
