GIFFORDS PAC endorses Greg Jackson for DC City Council

WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Greg Jackson for an at-large seat on the D.C. City Council.

“There are few people who are as dedicated to fighting gun violence or as qualified to lead on this issue as Greg Jackson,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “From his time building and helping to steer the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention to his personal experiences as a gun violence survivor, Greg is a trailblazer in the violence prevention field. He is also a dedicated organizer who has advocated for community violence intervention programs and commonsense gun policy. I’m lucky to call him a friend and partner in the fight to save lives, and I am proud to endorse him for the D.C. City Council.”

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of GIFFORDS PAC. As survivors of gun violence, Rep. Giffords and I know that the pain of a bullet doesn’t impact just one person; it affects entire communities. And D.C. deserves less talk and more action to keep our youth and communities safe. From passing the first bipartisan law on gun violence prevention in 30 years to reducing homicides by 49% nationwide in just three years while at the White House, I know change is possible. We can’t wait. If elected, I will be a public safety expert serving on the DC Council. I’m committed to bringing people together across the District and our region to deliver real solutions that prevent violence, invest in communities, and make D.C. the leader in public safety,” said Greg Jackson.

Greg Jackson served as special assistant to President Biden and deputy director of the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, where he helped implement and develop 54 of the president’s executive actions on guns. Prior to his tenure at the White House, he worked with GIFFORDS as the national advocacy director and executive director at Community Justice Action Fund, the nation’s only Black survivor–led advocacy organization focused on ending gun violence. He has also worked as director of community relations and services for Mayor Muriel Bowser, and has held other public service roles supporting D.C.’s families. Throughout his career, Jackson has been instrumental in passing commonsense measures like background checks, red flag laws, and safe storage measures across the country. He has also helped secure historic investments in community violence intervention funding.
