GIFFORDS PAC endorses Sen. Chris Coons in Delaware

WASHINGTON —  GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Senator Chris Coons as he runs for reelection in Delaware.

“Senator Chris Coons is a champion for gun safety who has always stood with law enforcement, community leaders and shooting victims to fight for safer neighborhoods,” said Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “In the Senate, he has fought for commonsense gun laws and played a critical role in passing landmark legislation like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. I have no doubt Senator Coons will continue his advocacy on behalf of Delewareans and I am proud to endorse him for reelection to the Senate.”

“No one, regardless of their zip code or where they call home, should live in fear of gun violence, and yet tragically too many Delawareans have lived this pain firsthand,” said Senator Coons. “Gabby Giffords is a friend and an inspirational leader in this work, and I’m honored to have the support of GIFFORDS as our campaign fights for a brighter, safer future for our children.”

Senator Chris Coons has served in the United States Senate since 2010, where he has been a steadfast fighter for safer communities. As co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Law Enforcement Caucus, he has worked to unite law enforcement agencies with community groups to develop strategies for creating safer communities. He also passed the lifesaving NICS Denial Notification Act, which requires federal authorities to alert state and local law enforcement when someone prohibited from purchasing a gun tries to buy one and fails a background check.
