GIFFORDS PAC endorses Governor Wes Moore for reelection
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Maryland Governor Wes Moore for reelection.
“Under Governor Moore’s direction, Maryland has taken huge strides in the fight against gun violence,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Governor Moore has worked to tackle gun violence from every angle — from investing in law enforcement and community violence intervention strategies, to enacting commonsense gun safety policies that fight crime. I know that with another four years of Wes Moore’s leadership, Marylanders can rest easier knowing that they have a governor who will always put their well-being first, which is why I’m proud to endorse him for reelection.”
“I’m grateful to have GIFFORDS PAC’s support in our mission to continue delivering record drops in gun violence across Maryland,” said Governor Wes Moore. “Since taking office, we’ve been able to deliver real results: a 44% drop in homicides and a 40% drop in non-fatal shootings statewide. That is only possible because of the all-of-the-above approach to public safety we’ve taken to pass commonsense gun safety measures, get DIY machine guns off of our streets, and start our own Center for Firearm Violence Prevention and Intervention. Together, we will continue the work to end gun violence and ensure safe neighborhoods for all Marylanders.”
Before taking office in 2023, Governor Moore served as an Army veteran and as a nonprofit leader which informed his “all-of-the-above” approach to public safety. His leadership has resulted in historic drops in violent crime across Maryland, and millions of dollars in investments toward community violence intervention programs. During his tenure, Governor Moore has also spearheaded the Center for Firearm Violence Prevention and Intervention and helped develop both the ENOUGH Initiative and the THRIVE Initiative to support Marylanders.
In office, Governor Moore has also signed legislation to ban machine gun conversion devices and hold irresponsible gun industry actors accountable. In 2023, he helped usher in Jaelynn’s Law, which strengthened safe storage requirements, as well as additional bills to raise the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21 years old and restrict guns in sensitive places, such as schools, hospitals and government buildings.
