GIFFORDS PAC endorses Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan for U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan in her U.S. Senate bid.

“Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is a true gun safety champion and she has fought for the well-being of Minnesota families for more than a decade. Her work has produced lifesaving results, from expanded background checks, to red flag laws, to funding for gun safety initiatives. I am proud to endorse her campaign for the U.S. Senate,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Lieutenant Governor Flanagan is not afraid to stand up to the corporate gun lobby. With her leading the charge on gun safety in Washington, I’m certain we will make real changes to keep our communities safe.”

“I’m honored to have the GIFFORDS PAC endorsement. Gabby Giffords has led the fight against gun violence for over a decade. Her resilience and optimism are inspiring and remind us all to always keep going,” said Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan. “We need to love our kids more than we love our guns — and that starts with banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Every child deserves to grow up safe, and every parent deserves to know their child will come home — I’m proud to stand with Gabby and the GIFFORDS PAC in that fight.”

Peggy Flanagan has served as Minnesota’s lieutenant governor since 2019. Prior to her tenure as lieutenant governor, she served in the Minnesota House of Representatives and as the executive director of the Children’s Defense Fund. Throughout her time in office, she’s fought to improve Minnesota’s gun safety laws, and she will advocate for stronger safe storage laws and funding for community violence intervention programs if elected to the U.S. Senate this November.

With her election as lieutenant governor, she became the highest-ranking Native woman to hold executive office in the country, and in the Senate, she’ll become the first Native woman to serve in the chamber.
