GIFFORDS endorses Helena Foulkes for governor and Kim Ahern for attorney general in Rhode Island

WASHINGTON —  GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing Helena Foulkes for governor and Kim Ahern for attorney general in Rhode Island.

“Rhode Islanders should never have to worry about random acts of gun violence in their neighborhoods or schools. For many families across the Ocean State, this remains a daily fear. This fall, we can change that by electing leaders like Helena Foulkes for governor and Kim Ahern for attorney general. They share a commitment to enacting commonsense gun safety laws and keeping our communities safe,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “Helena Foulkes has spent her life working to improve the health and well-being of her communities while Kim Ahern has spent years as a prosecutor, fighting for a safer Rhode Island. I’m proud to endorse them in their campaigns and look forward to working with them in Providence to build a safer future for the next generation.”

For 25 years, Helena Foulkes served as executive vice president of CVS Health and president of CVS Pharmacy. If elected as governor, she would prioritize creating a statewide office of gun violence prevention and investing in mental health support as part of a comprehensive approach to ending gun violence.

Kim Ahern has served as a special assistant attorney general under three Rhode Island attorneys general and also served as senior counsel to two Rhode Island governors. Throughout her nine-year tenure as a prosecutor, she worked on more than 1,000 violent crime cases and regularly prosecuted firearm offenses. As attorney general, she will hold irresponsible gun manufacturers, distributors and dealers accountable and work with local law enforcement to keep firearms out of the wrong hands.
