GIFFORDS PAC endorses Sen. Ed Markey for reelection to U.S. Senate
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing U.S. Senator Ed Markey in his reelection bid in Massachusetts.
“Senator Ed Markey has never wavered in the fight against gun violence and his mission to save lives. For years, he has been an advocate for commonsense gun safety measures on Capitol Hill because he knows these laws make a meaningful difference in our communities,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “I’m proud to endorse Senator Markey for reelection because I’m confident he will always put the well-being of Bay Staters above the interests of the corporate gun lobby. From helping pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, to pushing back on the dangerous actions of the Trump administration, Senator Markey has proven he has the tenacity and grit to get results.”
“I am honored to have the endorsement of GIFFORDS PAC, an organization that has been on the front lines of the fight to end the scourge of gun violence in America. From our classrooms to our houses of worship to our neighborhoods, too many families have endured the heartbreak of senseless gun violence,”said Senator Ed Markey. “In the face of a Republican Party beholden to the NRA and the gun lobby, we must continue fighting to pass commonsense gun safety laws, hold the gun industry accountable, and build a future where every community can live free from the fear of gun violence.”
Senator Ed Markey has served Massachusetts residents in Congress for decades, first in the U.S. House, and since 2013, in the U.S. Senate. Throughout his career, Senator Markey has advocated for gun safety legislation and has supported numerous measures designed to keep communities safe. He authored the Making America Safe and Secure (MASS) Act to strengthen gun licensing requirements, and led efforts to stop the spread of ghost guns. He also introduced legislation that would devote additional resources to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to help address gun crime.
