GIFFORDS PAC endorses State Representative Angie Nixon for U.S. Senate
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement endorsing State Representative Angie Nixon in her U.S. Senate bid in Florida.
“For too long, elected officials across the Sunshine State have put partisan politics ahead of public safety, prioritizing the gun lobby’s wishlist over the wellbeing of everyday Floridians. This fall, we have a chance to change that by sending State Representative Angie Nixon to the U.S. Senate,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “GIFFORDS has worked alongside Representative Nixon in Tallahassee to stand against Republican powergrabs and protect families from Miami to the Panhandle from senseless violence. I know she’s the champion Florida communities need at this moment and I’m proud to stand with her in this critically important campaign. With her passion and energy, we can and will save lives.”
“I am deeply honored to earn the endorsement of GIFFORDS PAC, which understands the agonizing toll gun violence takes on all of us. While corrupt politicians in Florida have spent years making our streets more dangerous with permitless carry and rolling back basic safety standards for their corrupt, greedy, corporate donors and the gun lobby, most of us simply want safer, stronger communities and common-sense measures like strong red flag laws, background checks, and training programs,” said Representative Angie Nixon. “I have always stood up to extremists like Ashley Moody treating our neighborhoods like acceptable collateral damage, and together with GIFFORDS PAC, we are going to fight to deliver real, common-sense reform for Florida so we can make this state safer for all.”
Representative Nixon has been a fighter for Florida families throughout her career. As a union organizer, a mother, and a passionate advocate for her constituents, Representative Nixon understands the emotional toll gun violence has had on Florida families. In Tallahassee, she’s consistently pushed back on efforts to roll back lifesaving gun safety laws, including the bipartisan gun safety measures enacted after the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. She also opposed Republican-led efforts to allow individuals to carry hidden, loaded weapons in public without a permit, background screening, or basic safety training.
Throughout her tenure, Representative Nixon has also passionately advocated for the right of local cities and counties to enact their own gun violence reforms, and stood on the front lines alongside organizers demanding a ban on assault weapons to protect Florida’s neighborhoods. She’ll continue to advocate for meaningful action in the US Senate and work to enact commonsense solutions like universal background checks and stronger safe storage laws which have been proven to save lives.
