VICTORY: Gun safety champion Eli Savit elected as Michigan’s attorney general
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Eli Savit on his election to serve as Michigan’s next attorney general.
“Congratulations to Eli Savit on his election as Michigan’s next attorney general. At a time when attorney generals are critical bulwarks to protect their states, GIFFORDS was proud to endorse Eli as the gun safety champion in this race. We know he will tirelessly fight to create safer schools, safer streets and a safer future for Michigan families,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “GIFFORDS is looking forward to working with his office to keep guns out of dangerous hands, bolster community violence intervention efforts across the state and build on the progress Michigan has made on gun safety in recent years.”
GIFFORDS PAC endorsed Savit. Former Congresswoman Giffords appeared with Savit on the campaign trail in Michigan throughout the 2026 cycle. In August, Savit and former Congresswoman Giffords convened a roundtable discussion in Detroit to discuss gun safety as a major crime prevention and public safety issue for voters. In the closing weeks of the election, former Congresswoman Giffords returned to Michigan to launch a canvass for Savit and make the case that the state needs a gun safety champion as its top law enforcement officer.
