It’s Gun Owners for Safety Week!
We’re promoting responsibility and common sense all week long.
Responsible gun owners are speaking out against gun lobby extremism. That’s what Gun Owners for Safety Week is all about.
I’m a veteran firefighter and paramedic who has treated victims of gun violence. As a gun owner, I’ve shot competition pistol and three-gun, and have built firearms from kits at home. I’ve dedicated my career to causes and movements that will save lives—which is why I’m so excited to be leading Giffords Gun Owners for Safety.
I wanted to share this important work with the world, so we created Gun Owners for Safety Week to spotlight the efforts of responsible gun owners in the fight to save lives. Over the next seven days, we’ll be elevating the voices of Gun Owners for Safety to remind everyone—gun owners and non-gun owners alike—that the gun violence prevention movement is broad and might include some folks you don’t expect.
We also want to send the message that extremist groups like the NRA and NSSF don’t speak for the vast majority of responsible gun owners. If you’re a gun owner who respects the Second Amendment and also wants to take steps to end our country’s gun violence epidemic, Gun Owners for Safety is the group for you.
1: Hear responsible gun owners in their own words
Listen to the stories of six members of Giffords Gun Owners for Safety, each with a unique motivation for being in the fight to save lives. We’ll be releasing one video per day through August 21.
2: Check out our blog series “The NRA Doesn’t Speak for Me”
Last summer, four members of Giffords Gun Owners for Safety shared their stories on our blog. Angela Weber’s son survived the Parkland shooting. Claudia Fruin is a pediatrician who uses her voice to end gun violence. Howard Vestal is a longtime veteran, Republican, and retired architect turned gun safety advocate. And Becca DeFelice is a mother who grew up in a hunting family whose daughter is forced to undergo traumatic lockdown drills.
Use #GunOwnersForSafety on social media to follow along. We’ll be posting new content every day, so stay tuned, like, and share with your networks. If you’re a gun owner who believes in safer gun laws, don’t forget to share your own thoughts on why gun owners play a key role in the gun safety movement!
4: Wear your values
Giffords Gun Owners for Safety has some pretty slick merch, if I do say so myself. All week long, the entire collection is 40% off with code RESPONSIBLE. I look forward to seeing you out there sporting a message of safety and responsibility with your new t-shirts, hats, and stickers.

Do you know someone who might be interested in Giffords Gun Owners for Safety? Send them this link, or tell them to text GUN OWNER to 34131 to join like-minded hunters, sport shooters, collectors, and other gun owners who want safer gun laws.
More than ever before, gun owners are standing up and taking action: In the wake of recent tragedies in Buffalo, Uvalde, and Highland Park, sign-ups for Gun Owners for Safety have more than doubled.
And next month, our coalition will gather for our first ever Gun Owners for Safety Summit, a series of training and strategy sessions for members of our coalition who support commonsense gun laws and oppose the gun lobby’s dangerous profit-driven agenda.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll participate in Gun Owners for Safety Week and help spread the word: responsible gun owners stand for gun safety.

GUN OWNERS FOR SAFETY
The NRA’s extremist views don’t represent the majority of gun owners. Responsible gun owners understand that commonsense gun laws go hand-in-hand with firearm ownership.
