GUN SAFETY VICTORY: Gun Safety Champion Sen. Raphael Warnock Defeats NRA-Backed Herschel Walker

Giffords Senior Advisor Campaigned for Warnock During Special Election

Washington DC — Today, Giffords PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, congratulated Senator Raphael Warnock on his reelection to the US Senate. Senator Warnock’s victory over extremist Herschel Walker represents the triumph of courage over the corporate gun lobby’s extremist agenda and dark money. Giffords PAC endorsed Senator Warnock in March, noting his diligent work on the issue of gun safety since helping to flip the Senate and taking office in 2021. Last week, former Congresswoman and Giffords Senior Advisor Debbie Mucarsel-Powell campaigned in Georgia to support Senator Raphael Warnock in the runoff election.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“Senator Warnock is a devoted and determined public servant who works tirelessly to ensure the safety of communities across Georgia. Long before voters sent him to Washington DC, Senator Warnock understood the threat that gun violence posed to our schools and houses of worship as a pastor and public servant. After a gunman killed eight people in a shooting spree in Atlanta last year, Senator Warnock vowed to do everything in his power to make sure that families across his state won’t ever have to endure this kind of violence again. He has been a champion for gun safety in the Senate by voting for the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and supporting legislation that would close loopholes in our gun laws that allow people who have committed domestic abuse to access firearms, require background checks on all gun sales, and secure funding for community violence initiatives and gun violence research. I am overjoyed that Georgians used their voices to send Senator Warnock back to Washington DC for a full term.”

In 2021, Senator Raphael Warnock pulled off a feat that many thought to be impossible—he won a close election against an NRA-backed opponent as a Democrat in Georgia, flipping the balance of power in the US Senate. With his historic election, Senator Warnock helped usher in a gun safety majority in the Senate for the first time in six years that passed landmark bipartisan gun safety legislation. In addition to endorsing Senator Warnock, former

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords visited Georgia twice this election cycle to campaign for candidates up and down the ballot. During the runoff election, Giffords Senior Advisor Debbie Mucarsel-Powell campaigned in Georgia, participating in numerous events to mobilize Latino voters.
