GIFFORDS blasts Judiciary Committee approval of Todd Blanche, urges senators to oppose his nomination on the floor

WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee approved Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general out of committee. In May, Blanche stood shoulder to shoulder with gun industry executives to gut gun safety protections at the ATF, which include rollbacks to safety measures on gun sales, making it easier for people to traffic guns and avoid background checks. 

“Senate Republicans on the Judiciary Committee have turned their backs on Americans. They just approved someone who clearly cares more about the gun lobby and President Trump’s wishes than the safety of the American people. Todd Blanche will make America more dangerous. We urge senators to oppose his nomination on the Senate floor. Lives are at stake,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown.
