In 2024, Alabama had the fourth highest gun death rate among the states. In an average year, 1,248 people die from gun violence in Alabama. That means someone dies from gun violence in Alabama every seven hours. Forty-eight percent of these deaths are due to gun suicide and 49% are due to gun homicide. In Alabama, the rate of gun deaths increased 21% from 2015 to 2024, compared to a 15% increase nationwide.
