In 2024, Mississippi enacted a law criminalizing the manufacture, possession, or use of “machine gun conversion devices” like auto sears, which convert a semi-automatic weapon into a machine gun.1 Apart from this law, Mississippi does not regulate machine guns or automatic weapons.

Federal law requires machine guns to be registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), and generally prohibits the transfer or possession of machine guns manufactured after May 19, 1986.2
