About the Film

Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down tells the extraordinary story of former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords: her relentless fight to recover following an assassination attempt in 2011, and her new life as one of the most effective activists in the battle against gun violence.

Featuring extensive verite filming of Gabby and her husband, astronaut-turned-Senator Mark Kelly; interviews with Barack Obama and other friends and colleagues; and exclusive access to stunning videos taken in the weeks following her near-death, this film is the story of a rising star transformed by gun violence, and a close-up portrait of the marriage that sustains her.

For this powerful documentary film, Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down, we’ve created a discussion guide (English | Spanish) and a community learning guide (English | Spanish).

The community learning guide is a new, film-inspired resource featuring key sections to explore through the film. Each section can be used on its own or in collaboration with other key sections. The guide is flexible and appropriate for classroom use, community learning settings, homeschool learners, hybrid educational settings, and independent exploration of the film. The guide includes robust background information and helpful facilitation guidelines to set the stage for a positive learning experience.

There are five key learning sections in the community learning guide. Each key section includes a driving question, useful terms (when applicable), personal reflection, discussion questions, extension activities, and additional resources. These sections can be used on their own or in conjunction with other sections in the guide.
