For decades, Senator Bob Casey has put the well-being of Pennsylvanians first and worked tirelessly to achieve real results for his constituents. At the state level and in the US Senate, he’s striven to ensure that the government is responsive to the needs of everyday people across his state—including the need to keep children and families safe from senseless gun violence. Like many in this movement, Senator Casey understands that gun violence is an epidemic that has claimed the lives of far too many Americans and torn countless families apart, and he’s committed to taking the urgent action needed to safeguard the next generation from the very real effects of this public health crisis.
Throughout his time in public service, Senator Casey has been a strong champion for commonsense gun safety legislation. He has focused on addressing the scourge of gun trafficking and getting guns out of the hands of those who pose a danger to themselves or others, while also pushing for the passage of policies like universal background checks and a ban on military-style assault weapons. He’s introduced landmark legislation to keep Pennsylvanians safe, like the Disarm Hate Act, which would prevent a person who has been convicted of a hate crime from obtaining a firearm, and the Resources for Victims of Gun Violence Act, which would establish a federal advisory council to support victims of gun violence. In 2022, Senator Casey worked with members of both parties to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—the first major federal gun safety legislation signed into law in nearly 30 years. As part of this historic legislative package, Senator Casey was able to secure more than $8.5 million in federal funding to support the efforts of Pennsylvania’s Commission on Crime & Delinquency.
