Brian Schatz

US Senate Hawaii Democrat
Senator Brian Schatz has dedicated his career to helping the people of Hawaii. As the CEO of a social service nonprofit, lieutenant governor of Hawaii, and now as a United States senator, Senator Schatz has always worked to support those in need and to find solutions that will keep families across his state safe and healthy. A key part of this work is his longstanding commitment to ending America’s deadly epidemic of gun violence.
Since joining the Senate in 2013, Senator Schatz has consistently supported commonsense legislation to ban dangerous ghost guns, implement universal background checks, and close the gun show loophole—all of which a vast majority of Americans support. Knowing that the majority of American suicide deaths involve firearms, Senator Schatz worked hand in hand with Giffords to introduce the Child Suicide Prevention and Lethal Means Safety Act in October of 2021. This legislation would fund suicide prevention initiatives, ensure that health care providers are adequately trained to discuss the dangers associated with firearms, and create a centralized hub to provide safety information to at-risk-youth and their support networks. He also understands the importance of building strong police-community trust, and is leading efforts to reform state and local law enforcement agencies to remove weapons of war from police departments and neighborhoods across the country.

While he’s made important, lifesaving progress in the fight against gun violence in Washington DC, Senator Schatz is far from done. We need strong gun safety champions like him in the Senate, where he will continue to fight for meaningful change. With our gun safety majority on the line this November, we must make sure that Senator Brian Schatz remains in office to keep building a safer Hawaii for generations to come.

We are proud to endorse Brian Schatz for the US Senate.
