Candidate
Brittany Pettersen
US House
Colorado
— 7th District Democrat
Incumbent2024
Like far too many people in Colorado, Representative Brittany Pettersen has seen the deadly impacts of gun violence firsthand. Representative Pettersen grew up in Jefferson County and was in 11th grade at a nearby high school when the Columbine shooting took place. Moved by the experience, she first stepped up to run for the Colorado House in one of the most competitive races in the state in 2012, and went on to serve for six years before taking on a majority-flipping state senate seat. In 2022, she was elected to represent Colorado’s Seventh Congressional District, and has since been an unparalleled champion working around the clock to keep communities safe from senseless violence.
Representative Pettersen knows that gun violence is preventable if we have leaders in Washington DC who have the courage to stand up and fight for our children’s future. In her first year in Congress, she joined the House Gun Prevention Task Force and cosponsored legislation to ban assault weapons, close bump stock loopholes, and strengthen background checks. As a mother, she is determined to ensure that the next generation doesn’t have to grow up with active shooter drills and can feel safe at school, the grocery store, movie theaters, and places of worship. She also won’t sit back and accept that guns are the leading cause of death for our children—and she cosponsored the Recognizing Gun Violence as a Public Health Emergency Act to study the root causes of gun violence and point us toward solutions that will protect our kids.
Representative Pettersen knows what it takes to win hard races, and she’s prepared to defend her seat and pave the way for a new gun safety majority in the US House. It is imperative that we send Representative Brittany Petterson back to Congress—where we know she will continue to work with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move our country forward in the years to come and build a safer future for every Coloradan.
