Charmaine McGuffey has dedicated her life to serving her community in Cincinnati, Ohio. After starting her career as a police officer, she worked in the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for 33 years before retiring in 2017. During her time in the sheriff’s office, she became the first woman in the history of the department to rise to the rank of Major in Command of Jail and Court Services, where she oversaw the third largest jail in the state.

Under Charmaine’s command, the Hamilton County Justice Center improved from the state’s worst-ranked jail to one of its best, thanks to Charmaine’s investment in rehabilitation and community resource programs. Charmaine understands the importance of building long-term relationships between government agencies and the communities they serve, and she has the track record to prove it. With her extensive knowledge of the unique needs of Hamilton County and her decades of experience in the sheriff’s office, she is more than qualified to serve as Hamilton County Sheriff.
