In Congress, his efforts to address America’s gun violence epidemic have been informed by his lived experience. As a Texan, Representative Allred has always respected guns and commonsense gun ownership as protected in the Second Amendment. As a father, however, he knows it is unacceptable that his child might not be safe at school, and he believes we must reject the idea that church and school shootings are a regular part of American life. Congressman Allred believes we can and must do more—he was a staunch supporter of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and he supported the first federal funding to study gun violence in decades. He also knows that we must close loopholes in our current laws which allow those convicted of felonies and those who have committed domestic abuse to avoid background checks when buying guns, and he supports extreme risk protection orders, which give family members and law enforcement officials the ability to temporarily restrict access to firearms to individuals who are deemed a risk to themselves or others.
This fall, we need to make sure that we are sending as many gun violence prevention champions as possible back to Washington DC to protect our gun safety House majority. Representative Colin Allred is a solutions-oriented legislator whose leadership on this issue is desperately needed. We must send him back to Congress, where we know he’ll continue to challenge the NRA and anyone who stands in the way of progress.
We are proud to endorse Colin Allred for the US House of Representatives.
