On November 30, 2021, Emily Busch’s life was changed forever after her teenage son was forced to run for his life from a school shooter. In the wake of the devastating shooting at Oxford High School that killed four of her son Andrew’s classmates and wounded seven others, Busch knew that she had to do something to keep other children and families safe from senseless violence. She immediately rolled up her sleeves and got to work organizing parents, teachers, and neighbors to take action. In doing so, she attended countless school board meetings, testified before the Michigan legislature, and joined together with local and national gun safety groups like GIFFORDS to successfully advocate for the historic gun safety package that was signed into law by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2023—which included a statewide extreme risk law, universal background checks, and stronger safe storage requirements.

Now she’s running for Congress to continue this lifesaving work at the national level, because far too many states lack the strong laws that Michigan now has on the books and families from coast to coast deserve more than “thoughts and prayers.” In office, Busch is ready to work with anyone, regardless of party, to tackle our nation’s gun violence epidemic once and for all—and she knows that we can do so while respecting the right to safe, responsible gun ownership. With so much on the line this fall, voters across Michigan must mobilize like never before to send this mom on a mission to Congress. With her leading the charge, every family can rest easier knowing that they have a champion fighting for a safer future on their behalf in Washington DC.
