Senator Ghazala Hashmi knows that it’s unacceptable that we’ve allowed so many communities across Virginia to be shattered by the devastating impacts of gun violence. In Richmond, she’s been a strong champion for the many commonsense solutions needed to tackle this multidimensional issue head on and to honor the lives we’ve lost with sensible action. Senator Hashmi has co-patroned several pieces of legislation to address America’s epidemic of senseless violence, including bills to impose a civil penalty on individuals that leave, place, or store a handgun in an unattended motor vehicle, establish standards of conduct for firearms manufacturers to ensure their products are not sold by distributors who violate the law, and limit the sale and possession of assault weapons. While these measures will save lives, Senator Hashmi knows that a great deal more remains to be done—much of which hinges on gun safety champions maintaining their majority in the Virginia Senate and flipping control of the House of Delegates. With so much on the line, it’s more important than ever that voters reelect committed champions like Senator Ghazala Hashmi.
